Description
The album was recorded at the time of Coltrane's residency at the Five Spot as a member of the Thelonious Monk Quartet. The lineup includes the other members of Miles Davis' band, namely Paul Chambers on bass and Philly Joe Jones on drums, both of whom had previously worked with pianist Kenny Drew. Trumpeter Lee Morgan and trombonist Curtis Fuller were both up-and-coming jazz musicians, and both later became members of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers.
