INNA DE YARD - KEN BOOTHE / KUSH MCANUFF

Description

Side A:
Ken Boothe – "Let the Water Run Dry"
Side B:
Kush McAnuff – "Black
to I Roots (extended version)"
He is known worldwide as a reggae singer and one of Jamaica's greatest soul men, but on his island, it was truly during the ska and rocksteady era that Ken Boothe experienced his most illustrious period of fame. He was even nicknamed "Mr. Rock Steady" in the 60s. This nickname became the title of his first album with Studio One in 1968, from which "Let The Water Dry" is taken. The live-recorded backing vocals of vocal trio The Viceroys further illuminate it during this Inna De Yard session.
Winston's son and founder of the Uprising Roots Band is part of the new generation of musicians in Jamaica. Over a bed of percussion and with an elegant trombone played by Ronald 'Nambo' Robinson (Bob Marley, Lauryn Hill, Shaggy, etc.) during the chorus, Kush delivers an ultimate anthem to the roots of his culture, to black pride, and to the authenticity of this music which continues to renew itself with panache.
