Dubbed "the middleweight champion of the tenor saxophone" in reference to his subtle and melodic tone, Hank Mobley rose to prominence alongside Max Roach and the Jazz Messengers. Released in 1957, his original LP Jazz Message #2 features five tracks, including three original compositions by the saxophonist, accompanied by, among others, Lee Morgan (trumpet), Hank Jones (piano), Art Taylor (drums), and Doug Watkins (double bass).
