THE COMPLETE GABOR SZABO IN BUDAPEST

Description

For the first time in its entirety, this anthology brings together TV and radio recordings of the legendary guitarist Gabor Szabó, made during his returns to Budapest in 1974, 1978, and 1981. A historic and intimate immersion into the relationship between the exiled artist and his homeland. The first disc compiles studio and live sessions alongside great Hungarian musicians such as bassist Aladar Pege and singer Kati Kovacs. The second includes a rare concert filmed at the Hilton (1978) as well as Szabó's last known performance in 1981, a moving version of From a Dream. Released by Ebalunga!!! as a double gatefold vinyl and double digipak CD, the album is accompanied by an essay from the artist's official biographer, Douglas Payne, an original design by Anton Bogdanov, and mastering by Grammy-nominated engineer Jessica Thompson. Two hours of poignant music, blending American jazz and Hungarian roots: an essential chapter in Gabor Szabó's career.
