"The Wind of 666 Black Hearts Volume 2" marks a return to the early days of the highly influential Norwegian black metal legends, with tracks taken from rehearsals conducted in 1992, when the band had just undergone a vast stylistic transformation between their early death metal offerings and a stripped-down, completely raw, cold, and chaotic primal sound. This release contains tracks that would appear on the band's "Under a Funeral Moon" album. Darkthrone's line-up was reduced to three members at this time, with Nocturno switching to bass, Zephyrous handling guitars, and Fenriz, as always, on drums.
