This second LP by Ange marks the true beginning of their love story with the French public, clearly highlighted by the first track, a cover of Jacques Brel's song "Ces gens-là." It's a true stroke of genius, not only because the vocal lineage between Christian Descamps of Ange and the great Jacques is striking, as is his writing. Moreover, Brel remains a massive star of French chanson who made the crossover to pop thanks to covers of his songs by British singers like Scott Walker and David Bowie. The interpretation is perfect, both intimate and theatrically desired. But beyond that, Ange proves that they have fully assimilated the progressive genre at the height of its glory. One naturally thinks of Genesis for "Bivouac," but the more muscular Genesis, that of Trespass. The same intensity is present.
