Tribulation represents THE rising force in dark metal alongside bands such as Ghost, Paradise Lost or even Opeth. From death metal, Tribulation only draws a few elements, such as vocals reminiscent of the great days of Swedish death metal. Oscillating between death metal, progressive, atmospheric with a slight, very personal black metal touch, the “Opethian” influence (“Orchid”/“Morningrise” period) is also always present. But the composers Johannes Andersson (bass and vocals) and Jonathan Hultén (guitar) are also big horror film fans, and this comes through in the tracks. Tribulation also knows how to distill seventies doom sounds. A superb album, the great surprise of the beginning of the year.
