Simone Simons, from Epica, has been a leading figure in the world of female metal. Her entrance onto the scene alongside Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon), her musical partner and longtime collaborator, is no stranger to her operatic voice, capable of moving even the stone heart of a gargoyle. Together, they have created a sonic universe worthy of the influence the singer exerts. "Vermillion" is a true goosebump generator, a stellar tour de force that is universally moving. On her website, she says that this album will showcase the diversity of her influences, from metal to progressive rock, as well as electro and film soundtracks.
