Big things are on the horizon with the debut of French band OPPRESSION and their vehement, multifaceted, and profound black metal of the highest quality! Old friends, frequenting concert halls and bars, G.S.V (vocals) and Tom L (guitar) decided to form a band together, allowing them to control the songwriting and direction from A to Z. Faced with a growing number of ambient releases, they wanted to raise the tone with a very direct project. Speed, power, and a touch of melody (seasoned with a good dose of hate) – that’s how they laid the foundations of OPPRESSION, quickly joined by Predark (guitar). Once the composition of the first album was well underway, they called on two well-known musicians from the Bordeaux scene to take on the drums and bass: the brothers John (Otargos, Lifestream) and Désert (Lifestream). Together, they completed this first opus, No Safe Place, ready to hit you without restraint! OPPRESSION’s lyrics deal mainly with religion and, to a lesser extent, with a reflection on the evolution of society. Only the last song is an exception, addressing sex, drugs, and rock 'n'roll (so as not to lose sight of the essentials). Whether in the music or the lyrics, OPPRESSION did not seek to create anything pompous or overblown, but simply something frank, direct, and effective. – Long live oppression!
