Opeth, Sweden’s most respected and admired progressive metal virtuoso band, is releasing their 10th studio album, titled “Heritage,” their third on Roadrunner. “Heritage” follows 2008’s Watershed and Ghost Reveries (2005), each of which brought the avant-garde band the best reviews of their career. The album was produced by Mikael Akerfedlt and mixed with Porcupine Tree frontman Steven Wilson. This new album is expected to surprise many fans as it takes a direction the band had already touched on with the album “Damnation,” while pushing it further: stripped of all death metal, “Heritage” is a tribute to 70s prog-rock. Travis Smith, a longtime collaborator, also worked with Mikael to create, design, and produce the album artwork. “Heritage” will be released in several configurations that will certainly suit Opeth’s legion of fans, known for their collector’s tendencies: a standard edition, a special edition full of bonus material.
