Formé à Leeds par le guitariste Gary Marx et le chanteur Andrew Eldritch en 1980, The Sisters Of Mercy a sorti son premier album First And Last And Always en mars 1985. Leur premier album a atteint la quatorzième place des charts britanniques. Le groupe comptait alors Wayne Hussey à la guitare et Craig Adams à la basse, qui allaient tous deux quitter le groupe pour former The Mission. Le coffret inclus l'album + les 3 EP qui ont précédé l'album : Body & Soul, Walk Away et No Time To Cry. Chaque EP contient des titres bonus de l'époque qui ne figurent pas sur l'album.
