Louis Lane a dirigé de grands orchestres à Dallas et à Atlanta et des ensembles de premier plan dans le monde entier. Avant cela, en 1947, Louis Lane s'est perfectionné en travaillant dans l'ombre de l'un des grands maîtres : le légendaire maestro George Szell qui a choisi le jeune Texan inexpérimenté pour l'assister à Cleveland - « Je pense que tu feras l'affaire » était le verdict du maestro, un éloge exceptionnel de la part de ce perfectionniste notoire.LouisLane est resté avec l'Orchestre de Cleveland pendant plus de deux décennies, gravissant les échelons pour devenir chef d'orchestre associé. Jouant un rôle important dans la transformation par Szell d'un ensemble respecté de second rang, et sans doute le meilleur orchestre symphonique d'Amérique, Louis s'est bâti une solide réputation. Pour cela, il a notamment dirigé le célèbre Cleveland Pops et élargit le répertoire de l'orchestre avec pas moins de 75 premières locales.Entre 1959 et 1972 - avec le Cleveland Orchestra au complet, le Cleveland Pops, et le Cleveland Sinfonietta, de la taille d'un orchestre de chambre - Louis Lane a réalisé une série d'enregistrements acclamés par la critique avec Columbia. Ils témoignent de « l'ampleur exceptionnelle et du goût impeccable » pour lesquels ce chef d'orchestre talentueux mais toujours sous-estimé a été salué dans un hommage rendu par le directeur exécutif de l'orchestre. Sony Classical est heureux de présenter ces enregistrements - pour la plupart, pour la première fois sur CD - dans ce nouveau coffret de 14 disques.
