Le chef d'orchestre américain John Nelson, particulièrement célèbre pour ses interprétations de Berlioz, a dirigé l'oratorio le plus célèbre de Haendel à la cathédrale de Coventry, au coeur de l'Angleterre, en novembre 2022. "Dans le monde turbulent d'aujourd'hui, j'espère que ceconcert du Messie dans ce lieu symbolique pourra être un puissant message d'espoir."La représentation est maintenant publiée sous la forme d'un coffret de trois disques - comprenant la version audio (2 CD) et la vidéo (1 DVD). La version de la partition choisie par Nelson reflète l'évolution du Messie entre 1741 (l'autographe original) et le début des années 1750, lorsqu'une version "standard" de l'oratorio a pris forme. En outre, les CD proposent huit pistes bonus - des versions alternatives d'arias désormais bien connues. John Nelson est accompagné de l'orchestre et du choeur historiquement informés de The English Concert, de la soprano Lucy Crowe, du contre-ténor Alex Potter, du ténor Michael Spyres et de la basse Matthew Brook.
