Two-time Echo Jazz winner Arne Jansen is one of the busiest musicians in the German jazz scene. On the advice of his musical mentors, he has set out on the path to his own musical roots, working on an album that turns to Mark Knopfler/Dire Straits. His partner in crime is none other than Stephan Braun, who also played cello for Melody Gardot for three years. While the album recording breathed a very intimate spirit, the playing of the two top musicians became far more hands-on in preparation for the live activities - the jazz context expanded, the music amplified, and moreover, sound and energy gained the upper hand on individual songs. The dynamics range from chamber pieces to rocking thunderstorms. The two learned to surrender to the flow of the big songs and to work out diverse shades of sound with small instruments, making the listener click his tongue when "Brother in Arms" or "Sultans of Swing" sound. If Jazz Rock had its great time in the 70s, the two top musicians are really writing a new chapter in the encounter of these two musical styles with their Knopfler/Dire Straits arrangements! 4.
