LP reissue of an essential album by the pioneers of French electro-dub!
At a time when we rush to buy the latest EP from any new artist with fleeting buzz, this quintet from Angers offers something much more valuable: a career. Twenty-odd years dedicated to personal music, materialized by ten albums (plus a few special editions) of exemplary quality. A flawless journey, punctuated by valuable collaborations (Jamika, Sir Jean, Tricky, Paul St Hilaire, Winston McAnuff, Vincent Segal, …) that helped enrich a body of work initially devoid of vocals.
Because at the origin of Zenzile was dub, that instrumental version of reggae, an invention of Jamaican sound wizards, full of echo, delay, and reverb. Along with a few others (Improvisators Dub, High Tone, Brain Damage, …) Zenzile explored its foundations in France, with singularity. Their dub, expansive and cinematic, is played live, with bass, drums, keyboards, and saxophone. Over the years and albums, the group has constantly evolved the musical genre by dabbling in rock, electro, new wave, funk-punk, and krautrock.
