Weval (Harm Coolen & Merijn Scholte Albers) are a duo from Amsterdam who have built a solid reputation worldwide by producing highly textured and sophisticated electronic music. The new EP "Changed for the Better", due for release on Ninja Tune's Technicolour label in November 2021, is further proof of the two musicians' desire to push their own boundaries in search of new heights. Weval's incredibly catchy arrangements are imbued with a rarefied pop magic; they dream of emotive and highly dynamic electronic music, with a taste for danceable drama and epic melodies. It's packed with powerful synth hooks, driving rhythmic patterns and cleverly juxtaposed intensities. They describe the new EP as "quite explosive" compared to previous releases. The "Changed for the Better" EP showcases their different facets - the emotive, luscious vocals on "Changed for the Better", the Caribou/Daphni-esque rhythmic loops on "Fire", and the fan favourite "Letter", which aims squarely for the dancefloor.
