I Was Trying to Describe You to Someone marks Wednesday's second album and their first recorded as a full band. Hailing from Asheville, North Carolina, the band explores the tension between dissonance and melody, with three guitars supporting Karly Hartzman's clear voice. Shoegaze, grunge, indie pop, and Southern culture intertwine in eight powerful yet fragile tracks. The album draws from a musical lineage that includes The Swirlies, Acetone, Arthur Russell, and Ana Roxanne. MJ Lenderman's backing vocals also feature on "Billboard" and "November." Recorded at Hartzman's home with the help of her roommate Colin Miller, the record captures the energy of live performance while highlighting the intimacy of the vocals. Hartzman's lyrics, fueled by memory and literature, are central to the album. Inspired by Brautigan, O'Connor, and Berman, she seeks to translate fragments of the past into prose.
