Wewantsounds is delighted to reissue *We Malo*, a 1975 classic by Warda, rightly considered one of the greatest divas of the Arab world, alongside Oum Kalthoum and Fairuz, and whose music has been sampled by Jay-Z and J Dilla. Warda released *We Malo* (“So What”) at the peak of her fame. Alongside her new husband, the renowned composer Baligh Hamdi, she recorded a series of superb albums in the 70s, showcasing her powerful and hypnotic voice. Fusing traditional Arabic music, 70s grooves, and modern rhythms—including electric guitar and organ (certainly played by Hany Mehanna)—*We Malo* unfolds in several parts, illustrating Warda’s exceptional talent and inimitable vocal style. It is one of her funkiest albums, which has become a reference for collectors and lovers of Arab groove over the years. This reissue features remastered audio, the original cassette artwork, and a two-page booklet with a new introduction by Mario Choueiry of the Institut du Monde Arabe.
