Incantation

Description

Incantation holds many mysteries: repeated, chanted, whispered, it leads to trance, charms, bewitches, even hexes. Violinist Virgil Boutellis-Taft proposes to unveil its secret powers, those very powers residing in the fascinating song of his instrument. Sometimes violent and feverish, as in Camille Saint-Saëns' Danse macabre, sometimes caressing and undulating, in Bruch or Tchaikovsky, incantation spans all of history, from the Baroque era (with Vitali's mysterious Chaconne) to the pinnacle of cinema, with the "Yumeji's Theme" from the film In the Mood for Love. Religious, vengeful, magical, even malevolent, it has constantly inspired composers' most magnetic works. Virgil Boutellis-Taft delivers a high-flying performance, accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Jac Van Steen, for a wild and magical album.
