SUSPIRIA

Description

Thom Yorke, lead singer of Radiohead, takes on the challenge of a film soundtrack for the first time here, and not just any soundtrack, as it is for Luca Guadagnino's (Call Me By Your Name) remake of Dario Argento's cult horror film, Suspiria. For this, he composed no less than 25 original tracks, including the first single, Suspirium, a sublime piano-vocal ballad. A successful first experience, but one that was terrifying for Thom Yorke: "normally, to compose the music for a horror film, you need an orchestra and specific things. But Luca [Guadagnino], the director, and Walter [Fasano], the editor, are not prescriptive and prefer to let you find your own way." The bar was set high as the original film owed its success as much to Argento's aesthetics as to the haunting music of the band Goblin, but Thom Yorke rose to the challenge with brilliance. "There's a repetitive aspect to the music that can be hypnotic, and I keep telling myself it's a way of casting spells. So, when I went into the studio, I cast spells."
