The Californian duo The Saxophones delivers delicate dream pop in a first album of rare beauty. While The Saxophones initially referred to the solo project of Alexi Erenkov, a project started about ten years ago but only gaining traction recently as he dedicated himself to it, who better than his wife Alison Alderdice to bring stripped-down drums and percussion to his compositions? "Songs of The Saxophones" draws its inspiration from both exotica and 1950s Hawaiian music, from Italian songwriter Vittorio Impiglia, or among a host of Third Stream and West Coast jazz albums, to offer us a truly unique result. The songs that make up the first album were composed and written during a period when the couple lived on a boat in the San Francisco Bay during a very rainy winter.
