‘The Mutt's Nuts,’ recorded in about ten days, features 15 unbridled tracks leaning more towards melody and experimentation than ‘Speed Kills,’ Chubby and The Gang’s debut album. The first 6 tracks are a succession of aggressive punk sounds where Charlie rails against landlords ("It's Me Who Will Pay") and discusses institutional absurdities ("Did I stutter? Did I fuck"). The second part of the album gives way to slower tracks that push their 50s/60s pop influence even further. “Life’s Lemons,” for example, is a good old rock’n’roll ballad, with Meg on backing vocals.
