Recorded in spring 1969 to a wild, sold-out crowd, the captivating performance by the original lineup (Jimi Hendrix, Mitch Mitchell, and Noel Redding) has never been fully released. This album comes out in time for the 80th anniversary of Jimi Hendrix's birth.
After the massive success of the winning trifecta Are You Experienced, Axis: Bold as Love, and Electric Ladyland in 1967-68, the trio became rock's most popular international attraction. It was at the L.A. Forum that the band first unveiled the famous cover of "The Star Spangled Banner," which Jimi would canonize four months later at Woodstock. The live album includes "Purple Haze" and an incendiary 17-minute medley of "Voodoo Child (Return)" and Cream's "Sunshine Of Your Love."
The concert was recorded simultaneously by Wally Heider and Bill Halverson, and recently remixed by Eddie Kramer, Hendrix's longtime producer and engineer, for maximum audio fidelity and includes a foreword by ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons, who attended the concert in 1969.
