The year 1968 gave birth to many timeless pop masterpieces, of which Electric Ladyland is one of the most important. Jimi Hendrix wanted to break away from the trio format imposed by Chas Chandler, who would not be credited on the album. It also marked the temporary absence of Noel Redding on bass, replaced by Hendrix or guest musicians such as Jack Casady from Jefferson Airplane. Jimi experimented and made the most of advances in multi-track recording to try out numerous overdubs. This double album (a format still rare at the time) was conceived as a whole, an experience as suggested by Hendrix, leading a trip on the first real track of the album, “Have You Ever Been (To Electric Ladyland)”. Despite the alternation of hit tracks like “Crosstown Traffic” or the Bob Dylan cover “All Along The Watchtower”, and more experimental, improvised, and extended pieces like “Voodoo Child” or the series “Rainy Day, Dream Away” – “1983…” – “Morn, Turn The Tides…”, the album's coherence is maintained. Hendrix was deeply involved in this concept album, from which emerged an extraordinary patchwork of new sounds, catchy hits, and timeless tracks such as the orgasmic “Voodoo Child (Slight Return)”. It’s the kind of music that sticks with you and can follow you your whole life in a very intimate relationship… It's difficult to share the feelings experienced when listening to it; Hendrix delved into his imagination and created a timeless record.
