To celebrate the album's 25th anniversary, The Jesus And Mary Chain are reissuing their sixth studio album, "Munki," long out of print. It has been remastered by Pete Maher (The Rolling Stones, Jack White, Liam Gallagher). Released on June 2, 1998, on Sub Pop / Creation Records, "Munki" was – until The Mary Chain's reformation in 2007 – a masterpiece of experimental rock'n'roll that became the Reid brothers' swansong, as their disputes led to the band's split less than a year after the album's release. It's fitting, then, that "Munki" is considered by some to be the definitive Mary Chain album, as it seems to showcase all the musical directions the band explored over the five albums that preceded it. The decision to end the album with Jim's rousing "I Love Rock 'N' Roll" vocal and William's caustic anthem "I Hate Rock 'N' Roll" perfectly captures the dual tension at the heart of The Mary Chain at that time – a tension between noise and melody, and warring brothers. Across the album's 17 tracks, spanning 70 minutes, are the expected abrasive noise-rock epics, "Cracking Up" and "Degenerate," alongside pop hits like "Fizzy" and the tender acoustic slow-burner "Never Understood."
