If you place the blues at one end of the Groundhogs, they mix it with hard rock to create a sort of proto-punk sound at the other. This classic rock band, led by Tony McPhee, released *Split* in 1971. It was their fourth album, but more importantly, the second in an incredible trilogy that also included *Thank Christ For The Bomb* (1970) and *Who Will Save The World?* (1972). The album includes the song "Cherry Red," which inspired the name of the famous independent label. An essential work.
