Les Black Crowes, an American rock band, were formed in 1989 around brothers Chris and Rich Robinson. Signed by Rick Rubin to his label Def American, they were dubbed the "greatest rock'n'roll band in the world" by Melody Maker magazine. Their first album, Shake Your Money Maker, released in 1990 and named after a song by Elmore James, sets the stage with a 100% blues rock sound worthy of the best productions of the Stones or Aerosmith. It was with The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, released two years later and debuting at No. 1 on the American charts, that the band experienced its moment of glory.
