In the spring of 1963, the Beatles recorded for the BBC the second and third episodes of Pop Go The Beatles, a radio series that accompanied the group's meteoric rise a few weeks after the success of Please Please Me. Captured on June 1 at the BBC Paris Studios in London, with the exception of "Twist And Shout" recorded a few days later at Maida Vale, these sessions mix compositions by Lennon-McCartney and covers that still held an essential place in their stage repertoire. Notably, we find "Love Me Do," "From Me To You," "Memphis, Tennessee," and "Twist And Shout," performed with the direct energy that characterizes their early radio performances. This edition shines a light on a valuable testimony of the quartet's beginnings, at a time when the BBC studios were an essential laboratory in the construction of Beatlemania.
