On January 12, 1964, the night after finishing a 16-night run at the Astoria in Finsbury Park, London, The Beatles made their second appearance on the prestigious TV show Sunday Night At The London Palladium, performing five songs. The next day they flew to Paris and on the 14th they were back on stage for a warm-up show at the Cyrano Cinema in Versailles, ahead of an 18-day residency at Paris's Olympia. Comparing French audiences to English audiences, Paul commented at the time: “In England, the audience is seventy-five percent women. Here it’s seventy-five percent men. And that’s the main difference, really. They still enjoy the show, but you don’t get the noise and the atmosphere of a place. There’s no screaming. The sound quality of the French shows broadcast by ORTF radio and television is excellent, but the Palladium show in London, recorded by ORTF radio and television, is not of the same quality.”
