This 40th-anniversary edition is available in blue LP format and as a limited edition Bookpack containing the original remastered album on blue LP and 3CDs including the original album, alternate takes, rarities and live versions. CD3: LIVE - 19 live tracks from the Peel Sessions or the unreleased Gigant show (Netherlands, 1981). Formed in Dundee, Scotland in 1979, The Associates comprised vocalist Billy Mackenzie and multi-instrumentalist Alan Rankine. Built on an eclectic mix of influences and interests ranging from art rock to glam and disco, the duo enjoyed early success with their debut album 'The Affectionate Punch' in 1981. Their second studio album 'Sulk', released in 1982, was the band's definitive statement, a fascinating blend of lush neo-romantic popcraft and dark, surreal cabaret styles. Upon its release, the album was voted album of the year by Melody Maker. This limited edition 40th-anniversary Bookpack celebrates 'Sulk' with the original album remastered on 140g blue vinyl and 3 CDs containing the original album, outtakes, monitor mixes, rarities, Peel sessions as well as an unreleased live show from Gigant in the Netherlands from 1981. The 12" Bookpack also features exclusive sleeve notes by journalist Simon Reynolds with interviews from Alan Rankine, Michael Dempsey, Mike Hedges and Martha Ludley as well as previously unseen photography by Derek Reid, Tom Sheehan and Eveline Droge.
