POEMS FROM BOOK IV OF VICTOR HUGO'S LES CONTEMPLATIONS. AN ELECTROSHOCK BETWEEN CLASSICISM AND ELECTRIC PSYCHEDELIA." Yesterday, Sylvain Daniel presented his new creation entitled "Hugo Père, Pauca Meae". Based on Victor Hugo's "Les Contemplations", the bassist and his musicians created a work of great dramatic density that subtly dares to combine unprecedented elements (a bass and new wave synths meeting chamber music and clashing with the jolts of a piano carried by the swell, all lifting, cradling or crushing Hugo's simple and terrible words proclaimed by a possessed actor, it's as fresh as it is relevant). This creation reaffirms what "Palimpseste" already proclaimed last year, namely that Daniel is one of the great composers on the current jazz scene. May it have a long and beautiful life, give birth to an album and soon be performed on the most prestigious stages. " --- Louis-Julien Nicolaou on the occasion of the show's premiere, June 2019 ---." Sylvain Daniel weaves a breathtaking harmony with a classical string quartet: Johan Renard and Anne le Pape on violin, Cyprien Busolini on viola and JeanPhilippe Feiss on cello. Truly beautiful.
