Yesterday, Sylvain Daniel presented his new creation entitled "Hugo Père, Pauca Meae". Based on Victor Hugo's "Les Contemplations", the bassist and his musicians created a work of great dramatic density that subtly dares to combine unprecedented elements (a bass and new wave synths meeting chamber music and clashing with the jolts of a piano carried by the swell, all lifting, cradling or crushing Hugo's simple and terrible words proclaimed by a possessed actor, it's as fresh as it is relevant). This creation reaffirms what "Palimpseste" already proclaimed last year, namely that Daniel is one of the great composers on the current jazz scene.
