Tangerine Rhapsody / Snorre Kirk Quartet with Stephen Riley (Vinyle LP)

Description

Unsentimental - Tangerine Rhapsody - Blues Jump - West Indian Flower - The Nightingale & The Lake - Uptown Swing Theme - Festival Grease - Nocturne Bandleader, composer, drummer; for several years now, Snorre Kirk has been making his mark on jazz in Scandinavia, and even further south. After being revealed in France with Drummer and Composer (2017), then consecrated with its successor Beat a year later (3 keys Télérama, Choc Jazz Magazine), recorded respectively with a septet and a sextet, the Norwegian, relocated to Denmark, returns with Tangerine Rhapsody in a quartet, in a more stripped-down format with American saxophonist Stephen Riley. Once again, it is the composer/drummer we encounter on Tangerine Rhapsody, in collaboration with American tenor Stephen Riley and Snorre's usual team, here reduced to pianist Magnus Hjorth and bassist Anders Fjelsted. "On drums, Snorre Kirk is a model of economical precision [...] He also excels with brushes, bundles of steel filaments that create a rubbing effect, in a tradition that few drummers today can render with such musicality" (Sylvain Siclier, Le Monde).
