With this album, Stefano di Battista and Sylvain Luc revisit film music by sharing with us their inspiration generated by the original versions. In some tracks, the exposed themes remain clearly identifiable, while in others they are suggested by small touches, a few notes that allow recognition of a work in a few seconds. And the magic happens. The original melody remains in the background in each piece, it appears and disappears, allowing the performers to pass the ball back and forth. The melodies venture off the beaten path to become constructions shaped by the wind of the soprano, supported by the arrhythmia of the guitar that imposes sudden changes in rhythm. The role-playing that the two protagonists impose on themselves is that of cat and mouse, they chase each other, pause, and start again to play better. The whole is supported by two other playmates, Daniele Sorrentino on bass and Pierre-François Dufour on drums and cello. This game could be dangerous, it could become tiresome, but Stefano and Sylvain have the talent to avoid the pitfalls of improvisations that go wrong. While the soprano is most often used for its smoothness or ability to soar, in certain phrasings, it is with exemplary accuracy that it also takes the place usually occupied by the tenor or alto. The guitar, for its part, benefits from all the effects that can be given to it in the natural and clear acoustics, but also in saturation or electric funky riffs. Sylvain and Stefano had fun like kids who are not forbidden anything, the pleasure they took is sincere and palpable, it shines through the entire album.
