Released by Verve Records in 1964 and produced by Creed Taylor, who ran the label at the time, GETZ/GILBERTO was an instant worldwide success and a major influence on jazz, pop, and samba. A collaboration between Getz (tenor sax) and Brazilian music stars João Gilberto (guitar and vocals) and Antonio Carlos Jobim (composer and pianist), who wrote or co-wrote six of its eight original tracks, the album sparked a huge craze for bossa nova.
