TABOU1 is proud to re-release the very first album ever issued on Sly & Robbie's legendary TAXI label in 1979. After saving enough money touring with Peter Tosh to purchase 4 multi-track recording tapes, Sly & Robbie asked Gregory to perform some songs for them. As they had played on many of his hits, Gregory generously agreed to do so for free to help launch the new TAXI label. In 1979, Gregory Isaacs was by far the most popular artist in Jamaica, earning his nickname "Cool Ruler" many times over by churning out hit after hit, most of which were produced with Sly & Robbie, who, at just 25 years old, were already the hottest rhythm duo. From these sessions came tracks like "Soon Forward," a fabulous cover of Bob Marley's "Slave Driver," as well as 4 other impactful tracks. No bland soul or pop covers: Gregory Isaacs, whose voice and range were at their peak, sang with clarity, depth, energy, and confidence, without unnecessary frills. Essential for any music lover, this major album offers "Discomix" extended versions of all songs, providing listeners with a generous immersion into the rhythmic bass drum extravagance of the "Riddim Twins." In addition to the original album, we have added 3 dub versions that were only released in Jamaica as B-sides of singles in 1979. Never re-released until now, they offer a fascinating glimpse into Sly & Robbie's bass drum sound, which revolutionized reggae music at the time.
