Simian Mobile Disco pushes the boundaries of electronic music with a new album recorded in live conditions. Last April, SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO went to the Southern California desert. James Ford and James Shaw brought with them two modular synthesizers, two sequencers, and a mixing table. Over a period of three days, they played and rehearsed in the desert, culminating in a sold-out concert at Pappy & Harriet's, Pioneertown, which allowed 900 fans to witness the recording process. These sessions became the basis for their upcoming album, Whorl. This new live system from SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO was born out of a love for challenge, a desire to completely eliminate computers to return to hardware sequencers, which, while reducing the palette of sounds, allows for more direct and spontaneous manipulation. And by technically constraining themselves, they freed themselves musically.
