At The Black Hawk, Vol. 1

Description

In September 1959, drummer Shelly Manne and his "men"—Joe Gordon (trumpet), Richie Kamuca (tenor saxophone), Victor Feldman (piano), and bassist Monty Budwig—took over San Francisco’s Black Hawk club for a series of high-intensity bebop concerts. This explosive first volume, which would be followed by three others, features extended and exuberant versions of Tadd Cameron’s standard “Our Delight” and George Gershwin’s timeless “Summertime.” This reissue is part of the audiophile “Contemporary Records Acoustic Sounds” collection and benefits from new analog mastering from the master tapes by Bernie Grundman, as well as the original artwork and liner notes in meticulous packaging.
