Bassist, composer and producer Shay Hazan returns with his third solo album, "When It Rains It Pours", on the Batov Records label. Following the critical success of "Reclusive Ritual" and "Wusul", Hazan takes a bold step, moving away from the guembri-dominated sound that made his name to explore a richer sonic palette, driven by bass, guitar and synthesizers. While his previous work highlighted the raw, authentic textures of the Gnawa tradition, "When It Rains It Pours" bears witness to Hazan's evolution as a producer and multi-instrumentalist. Across eleven tracks, Hazan deepens his exploration of complex rhythms, spiritual melodies and experimental textures, delivering his most personal and accomplished work to date. The album documents this transition, capturing the tension between struggle and rebirth. Unlike his previous albums centered on the guembri, Hazan's approach here highlights his progression as a studio craftsman. Sampling, layering and textural exploration are at the heart of the album, without losing the immediacy of live playing. Longtime collaborators, including saxophonist Eyal Netzer, trumpeter Roy Zuzovsky and drummer Shahar Haziza, help anchor the album in ensemble playing, even as it ventures further into electronic territories and original productions.
