The leader of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, Saxon, enjoyed massive success in the mid-1980s, particularly thanks to the albums Power and The Glory and Crusader. Retaining their talent for songwriting, the band led by Biff Byford definitively leaned towards the US with their subsequent albums, Innocence Is No Excuse, Rock The Nations and Destiny, presented today in remastered versions. Immediately captivating with the track "Rockin' Again," Innocence Is No Excuse is a solid collection, featuring "Devil Rides Out," also present in live form in this re-release, and the irresistible "Broken Heroes." Saxon then demonstrates their technical virtuosity with Rock The Nations, where they flirt with mainstream rock, aided on two tracks ("Party Til You Puke" and "Northern Lady") by Elton John's discreet piano. Continuing their shift towards AOR, the band finally delivered an interesting Destiny in 1988, which particularly shines on "Ride Like The Wind," "Calm Before The Storm," and "Jericho Siren." Enhanced with B-sides, alternative mixes, and live tracks, these reissues are a treat for Heavy Metal fans.
