Roy Hargrove, born in 1969 in Waco, Texas, established himself as a trumpet prodigy from adolescence, drawing inspiration from jazz greats and quickly attracting the attention of influential mentors who introduced him to the New York scene. After a stint at the Berklee College of Music, he joined the New York jazz scene, playing alongside legends and joining the group Superblue. Despite years marked by kidney disease and dialysis, Hargrove remained active on stage and in the studio until his passing in 2018 at age 49. His posthumous album In Harmony (2021) re-entered the Top 5 of the jazz charts, immortalizing two duo concerts from 2006-2007. For the first time, his legendary concert at the Bern Jazz Festival is officially released, restored and remastered for audiophile fidelity. This live recording captures Hargrove at the peak of his art: bold, lyrical, and inventive.
