In 2005, Roberta recorded the present duo album entitled “You Are There” with the legendary pianist Hank Jones. Mr. Jones, who accompanied most of the famous 20th-century singers such as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, Carmen McRae, and Nat King Cole, declared Roberta Gambarini to be the best singer to emerge in the last 60 years. Roberta first met Hank Jones in 2001 at the annual Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival at the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho. After that meeting, she toured the world playing with her trio as well as with him in a duo, resulting in this 2005 recording. Roberta recalls: "There were no baffles, no isolation booths, no headphones, no overdubs. The sound would be exactly what you would hear if you were in someone's living room playing among friends. We had this list of tunes that we knew and loved, but (by choice) no arrangements, no rehearsals, no predisposed 'structures,' in a word, no 'concept' other than to let the music flow and be as open as possible to whatever might happen in the moment. If one of us stopped the take, there would be no possibility of fixing, splicing, or adjusting, we would just start over."
