Josh Homme formed Queens Of The Stone Age (QOTSA) after the dissolution of his previous band Kyuss in 1996. The band quickly distinguished themselves with their first two albums, 'QOTSA' in 1998 and 'Rated R' in 2000. In 2002, they literally exploded with the resounding success of 'Songs For The Deaf,' a cult album that has since remained a true benchmark for albums of its genre. The singles 'Go With The Flow' and 'No One Knows' quickly became cult classics, and the album sold over two million copies worldwide! QOTSA functions more like a collective, as its lineup evolves with each album, feature, and tour. Josh is thus accompanied by bassist Nick Oliveri, Troy Van Leeuwen, Michael Shuman, Dean Fertita, and, on certain tracks and tours, by Dave Grohl and Mark Lanegan. After the successes of 'Lullabies To Paralyze' (2004), marked by Nick Oliveri's departure, and then 'Era Vulgaris' (2007), QOTSA took a break that proved to be far too long for all its fans. After several rumors, QOTSA finally returned last March with the announcement of the release of "...Like Clockwork" on the independent American label Matador. This new album marks the return of some historical members of the band: Nick Oliveri on bass, Dave Grohl on drums, and Mark Lanegan. Josh, in addition to knowing how to surround himself, is also, like Jack White, one of the best rock guitarists and composers in the world. With the first single 'My God Is The Sun' or the brilliant 'If I Had A Tail,' we happily rediscover that pure rock sound, far from fleeting fads and trends, where sharp guitars answer one of the best rhythmic sections in rock, led by Grohl and Oliveri, just like in the glory days of "Songs For The Deaf"! Josh is also an excellent singer and melodist, talents he fully exposes on this album with the beautiful and surprising piano tracks 'The Vampyre Of Time And Memory' and '...Like Clockwork' which closes this opus, or on the epic 'I Appear Missing' and its superb guitar riff. With "...Like Clockwork," Josh seems to tell us that his plan worked; we can't fault him for the wait, as this album is so enjoyable. Open, effective, both demanding and accessible, it stands out as one of the band's best albums. A true rock masterpiece!
