A clear and captivating introduction sets the mood for the first song of Maintenant Jamais, the third album by Population II. Under the direction of producer Dominic Vanchesteing (Marie Davidson, Chocolat, Peter Peter), the turbulence of the band's previous releases is structured and refined. The result is a sophisticated rock album that surprises with its languorous grooves, as heard in Le thé est prêt, while remaining true to the raw power for which the band is known, as evidenced by vigorous tracks like La Trippance and Rédemption naturelle. The album flows into Prévisions, a song that undulates gracefully before abruptly transitioning to the instrumental Macavélique rock. While Haut-fond and Cardinaux are true feats of elegant progressive rock, Mariano (Jamais je ne t'oublierai) and homme étoilé prove that Population II also possesses a deep melodic sensibility, capable of creating catchy and explosive choruses. On this new album, the trio hones the distinctive style they have been developing for several years, partly thanks to a fusion of shared influences – from Soft Machine to MC5 to L'Infonie – but also due to a rare camaraderie that can only flourish between such close friends. This creative chemistry is what makes the band's complex writing so fluid and flexible. Population II pushes its previous sonic boundaries while remaining true to its roots.
