Formed at the initiative of Laurent Bardainne, Poni Hoax was discovered in 2006 thanks to their first eponymous album. Surprising and enterprising, the group asserted its position on the French and international scene. The second album, Images of Sigrid, was the one that brought them recognition, with tracks like Antibodies becoming essential. For this third LP, A State of War, the group tackles more personal themes. The album evokes the childhood memories of Nicolas Ker, author and singer, born in Phnom Penh in 1970. A State of War is an album centered on war, exile, and the hope of return, but as stage animals, Poni Hoax also made sure the album was tailored for live performance. Substance and style harmonize to create a cohesive whole, the lightness of the music counterbalancing the depth of the lyrics.
