Ombra mai fu, the new event album by Philippe Jaroussky and his ensemble Artaserse, highlights the most beautiful Opera Arias by the Venetian composer Francesco Cavalli. The most famous countertenor makes his grand return to Italian Baroque music here. Cavalli has always respected the precept advocated by his master Monteverdi (music is the servant of the text); his carnal, sensual, theatrical music relies on a limited use of instruments, but which, more than 350 years later, still produces infinite effects on the human soul. Philippe Jaroussky simultaneously revives a spectacular virtuosity, but also a musicality, a sweetness, and a refinement that make him a beloved artist of the public.
