// LP 1: Paolo Fresu & Uri Caine - Improvvisi // LP 2: Paolo Fresu Devil Quartet - Impromptus // LP 3: Paolo Fresu Quintet - Repens What is Legacy? It's not easy to grasp the meaning of this work. As Paolo writes, the term "Legacy" essentially means inheritance, gift, bequest. But, especially in a cultural sense, there would be at least a dozen different interpretations. One of them, it seems, is even indirectly linked to jazz, since when we speak of "modal legacy," we are precisely referring to the modal donation or modal legato that is easily connected to the musical universe of Miles Davis & co. LEGACY is, however, also an "anniversary project" to celebrate three important anniversaries of Paolo Fresu's projects (he himself is very close to half a century old): 40 years with his historic Quintet, 20 years with the Devil Quartet, and 22 years in duo with Uri Caine. It consists of three totally improvised works to emphasize how freedom is acquired over so many decades of music, esteem, friendship, and shared artistic and human life.
