Four years after "Grand Paon de Nuit", the quartet Palatine marks its return with "Phantômaton". Mutant indie-folk with flamboyant songwriting!
This second album, with its introspective tone, is called "Phantômaton," and one quickly deduces the idea of snapshots, collages, miniature photos. Here, the songs enclose themselves in a tête-à-tête with ghosts. While Palatine has often been compared to Timber Timbre, on this new album, it is even more associated with James Blake. Guitars, bass, and drums hold each other in check, bowing to the new arbitration of modular synths. Often straddling both languages, Palatine this time gives pride of place to French over English. Haunted, perhaps, this "Phantômaton", but certainly tempting.
