No matter the era, progressive metal has never strayed from its avant-garde trajectory. ONLY HUMAN, a Danish band still new to the music scene, is already on the verge of resounding success with its debut album. But when the five members of ONLY HUMAN came together in 2023, they decided to build the very essence of the band around an increasingly prophetic idea. 'Planned Obsolescence' addresses the increasingly hostile grip of technology. "Techno Fascist" rolls in on a wave of deep, powerful riffs. The intrusion of rhythms, electronic sounds, and synthetic swirls into the heaviness of "Breach" reflects not only technology's infiltration into our daily lives but also the imminent threat it poses: that of making humanity obsolete. 'Planned Obsolescence' is imbued with existential dread, but that doesn't mean the album is devoid of hope. Nothing is broken or even obsolete about ONLY HUMAN. On the cusp of artificial intelligence, the band's fusion of powerful polyrhythmic riffs, unifying hard rock, and captivating electronic soundscapes is a breath of fresh air.
