Wonderwheel is re-releasing Novalima's album "Karimba" on vinyl for the first time. Recorded in their home studio in Lima, the album "Karimba" (a hot iron used to brand cattle and slaves) takes their music to new levels, introducing new sounds and traditional rhythms like Panalivio, Zamacueca, Ingá, and Tondero, while retaining their distinctive Afro and dub sound. Their reputation in Lima allowed them to work with the city's best traditional musicians in what would be their last recorded performances: singers Pepe Vasquez, Rosita Guzman, and Sofia Buitron, as well as guitarists Roberto Arguedas and Felix Casaverde (former guitarist for Chabuca Granda). For the worldwide release of "Karimba," Novalima partnered with ESL Records (Thievery Corporation, Nickodemus), an American label specializing in the fusion of traditional sounds. "Karimba" has garnered praise from the international press: NPR, Giant Step, Nat Geo Music, and many more, while topping the iTunes World Music Chart and reaching the top 10 Billboard World Music Chart since its release in January 2012.
