Behind the stripped-down aspect of this new album with its heartbreaking grooves, sinuous guitars, its pulsating Hammond organ, and its irresistible brass, we find the same character, sensitive and reserved, who does not hesitate to speak things as they are and to reveal certain truths about himself. Rateliff has the courage to talk about true and personal things.
